Paul Yem is a first generation Cambodian-American Photographer based in Los Angeles. Tapping into his roots as a fine art photographer, he often works with a 4x5 camera. Reverting back to antiquity in his process of image making, the 4x5 camera asserts itself in the confrontation of photography. This cumbersome experience forces a unique conversation, resulting in a highly intimate photograph.
This discourse is carried over into his commercial projects, translating that intentionality to the digital medium. He understands that although today’s industry demands the immediacy of delivering digital assets, there is still room to make something meaningful.
The images success depends on memorability, and his experience in moving through the ranks from assistant, to lighting director, to digital tech in the New York photo scene has laid a foundation of technical mastery that enables him to deliver uniquely told story through compelling photographs. He believes the product should act as a signature, strongly branded with his identity.
With a passion for creativity and community building, Paul is available and eager to collaborate on projects big and small. He is always always around for a strong cup of coffee, and a meaningful conversation.
